Restaurant Review – Vietnam Cafe

Vietnam Cafe is located in the west bottoms of Kansas City. I was intrigued to visit the restaurant when a fellow blogger friend posted a picture on her Instagram page. She labeled the photo the best Pho in KC. What is Pho, you say? (Please excuse my pictures, I brought my DSLR camera but my mom refused to let me take pictures with it. She said she would be embarrassed if I brought it out my purse…EKKK!)

PHO a Vietnamese noodle soup consisting of broth, linguine-shaped rice noodles called bánh phở, a few herbs, and meat.[2] Pho is a popular street food in Vietnam[3] and the specialty of a number of restaurant chains around the world. It is primarily served with either beef or chicken. The Hanoi and Saigonstyles of pho differ by noodle width, sweetness of broth, and choice of herbs. The origin of pho and its name is a subject of scholarly debate. A related beef noodle soup, bún bò Huế, is associated with Huế in central Vietnam.

My mother and I decided to give Pho a try. I ordered the beef Pho. The Pho is served as a steaming hot broth, noodles, thinly sliced beef, and onions. The broth is absolutely delicious. You are also given a side of fresh herbs, bean sprouts, lime and jalapeños. My server advised that you add hoisin sauce (sweet sauce) and sariciha (hot & spicy sauce) to flavor the Pho. I used the “Pho” spoon which a long, deep, soup spoon to take my first bite. Pho is unlike soup I’ve ever experienced.

I also ordered the spring rolls made with shrimp and onions fried to perfection. The spring rolls are served with a sweet vinegar dipping sauce. But be warned, you will want to place two orders because the first order you will devour yourself. The rolls were a nice addition to the Pho.

I highly recommend you try Vietnam Café. The Pho is addictively delicious! You will want to come back at again and again to try various Pho’s on the menu.
