I was recently contacted by a Public Relations firm in New York for the opportunity to interview Phillip Bloch on his new women’s line with the National Football League. What words come to mind when you think of the name Phillip Bloch? A celebrity stylist, Designer, Writer, Actor and now the 2013 NFL Creative Fashion Director.. Shall we go on? He’s been covered on every major media outlet there is from print, television, and of course social media. If you haven’t heard of Phillip Bloch, Keep living under that rock- Honey. Phillip shared with me his inspiration behind the line, style secrets, and fun ways to step up watching the game we all love.

FPKC Intro: Good Morning, Mr. Bloch…I am so excited to speak with you today about the new NFL women’s line:

PB: Ok, La’Shonda. Mr. Bloch is my father you can call me Philip.

FPKC: Ok, Phillip! I apologize, But if my parent’s heard me say that they would say, Are you calling him by his first name?

PB: LOL!!

FPKC: I know your time is of the essence, so let’s dive into the interview shall we?

PB: Oh, Honey we can go over by a little. You’re fine!

FPKC: How did the collaboration between you and the NFL Women’s line come about?

PB: Well, I hosted an event with for Vogue with the NFL. During the event we paired NFL attire (T-Shirts and Jerseys) with ball gowns and after five wear and the NFL loved it! I also hosted in Kansas City at the Aloft hotel, where we incorporated fashion and the NFL spirit as well. Did you attend?

FPKC: I did not receive an invite to that one. Maybe next time I will have to attend.

FPKC: I checked out the line and noticed there are a lot of pieces I can take from “game time to glam time”. What was your inspiration behind the line?

PB: Oh, I like that..Go from Game time to Glam time! I’m taking it.

FPKC: That’s fine.. Just remember to use #Shondasaiditfirst, LOL!

PB: LOL! I hosted an event where 33 designer’s pairs (such as the Olsen’s) paired something with our line. It was amazing to see jerseys and tee’s with sequins. Anything you can put a T-shirt with you can pair with the line.

FPKC: What are the two essentials for every woman’s football wardrobe? And can you give suggestions on styling them?

PB: The off-field jersey and the vintage tee. You can go from “Game time to Glam time”, The jerseys have sequins to add sparkle, which can be worn under a suit. Susan Lucci wore a jersey over a beautiful sequin gown. The vintage tee’s are very comfort and looks great with anything.

FPKC: I’ve notice that you have styled everyone from the iconic Michael Jackson, Sandra Bullock, The Smiths (Will & Jada), and Nicole Kitman just to name a few. How do you go from styling Hollywood’s elite to the everyday woman without losing your signature style?

PB: You know, I’ve been asked that question. But never quite put in that way, Great job! It’s easy; Celebrities are just real people with personalities and body flaws like everyone else. I’ve found a little bit of me in them. Some stylist will bring their clients three pieces; I will bring my clients one hundred pieces to choose from. I believe finding a commonality in what we like and agree on. “It’s not what makes you look good, but what makes you look better!”

FPKC: Who is your favorite NFL team?

PB: Well…. I grew up in Massachusetts, but I live in New York. So I love the Jets, Giants, and the Falcons. I just really love the sport. Football is a great connector; it’s a way to spend quality time together. 45% of women are football fans.  Home gating is a great way to bring the football parties home. A lot of my friends have fanicures. (FPKC: Fanicure?) PB: It’s when you get together with your girlfriends to watch the game and bring in a manicurist to design your nails in your teams colors and logos.

PB: Have you checked out the NFL’s home products?

FPKC: No.

PB: The home products are a great “No-Brainer” gift, it always fit. You can give a sandwich press with their favorite team’s logo, salt and pepper shakers, or give a new glass (such as a martini glass or cup) which you can add to each year.

I found Phillip is very down to earth, personable, and after speaking with him we are now BFF’s in my mind.
