Bacon Fest – Being Posh with Pork

I attended the Bacon Fest presented by Farmland Foods this past weekend. Growing up, the smell of bacon would awaken me from the deepest sleep. Ok, who am I kidding? It still wakes me up from the deepest sleep. Bacon is the type of food that brings back memories of seeing your parents or grandparents cooking in the kitchen. I can recall the sight of fluffy pancakes and eggs that would accompany my beautiful bacon. Sorry, I seriously got side tracked, back to the bacon yawl.

The fest was held at the beautiful Union Station located in downtown Kansas City. As soon as I entered the building the smell of that precious pork filled the air. As I checked in I was greeted with a T-shirt, a cardboard plate and a bacon fest cup to fill with beer (I’m not a fan of alcohol) so it was all the bottled water I could drink. Yippee!! My first stop was the Farmland Foods where they were serving up some good ol’bacon. I tried the thick cut pepper bacon and I swear my BLT’s will never be the same.

Next up I stopped by Our Sassy pantry who was serving up their seriously addictive bacon jam in a Phyllo cup served on top of savory cheese. It was so addictive; I came back several times and apologized each time I returned. A local catering company served bacon wrapped red pepper, I only ate one as it was mushy and did not have that much flavor.

From there I ventured to the Kansas Pork Association’s step and repeat to snap a couple photos. I jazzed up my outfit with a precious pink boa and the cutest little snout. Paradise Locker Meats featured a whole hog roasted to perfection on Hawaiian bread, topped with a delicious slaw. Ameristar gave out some divine sweet and sour pork. The Weiner Wagon gave their pumped up pork fans a treat as we chowed down on bacon sausage BLT’s. I finished off with dessert by Sashing Baking Company which has me licking my lips to this day after tasting their delectable Pecan Bacon Sticky Buns. Their sweet and salty creation was by far the belle of the ball.

I got the coolest T-shirt from the Kansas Pork Association. It’s official, I’m now a Baconista.
