Try It Out Tuesday “The Neelys”

Try it out Tuesday’s was created to incite my love of all things new. I am dedicated to expanding my horizons in the areas of food, fashion, fun, and motherhood. This week I decided to try out a new recipe by celebrity chefs Gina and Pat Neely. I simply adore how their love for food and one another comes alive on their show.

I have been a lifelong fan of fried chicken. But I am not a fan of the calories and fat most fried chicken recipes contain. I stumbled upon, a recipe by Gina and Pat called “Oven Fried Chicken”. My thought ‘s were, “Will the crunch and flavor factor be there?” Well, according to the reviews submitted by the viewers the answer to was “Yes”.  So, I decided to give the recipe a try.

This chicken has been dipped in the egg, seasoned, and rolled in panko breadcrumbs.

Picture taken after removing from the oven at 400 degrees for 45 minutes.

Results: The chicken turned out to be full of flavor, crunch factors united, and juicy.

The best things about this recipe was my husband and kiddo’s loved it. Now you can enjoy the crunch, flavor, and deliciousness of fried chicken without the guilt of absorbing fat and calories.  Please note: I would double up the seasonings on this recipe, I found this out prior to making the recipe by reading the reviews. This recipe is definitely going into my regular rotation of family meals.

Pat and Gina’s Oven Fried Chicken

Ingredients

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Fit a sheet tray with a wire rack and spray with nonstick cooking spray.

In a pie plate or shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, mustard, honey, hot sauce, and salt and pepper, to taste, together until thoroughly combined.

Add the panko, salt and pepper, to taste, the paprika, cayenne, and garlic powder to another pie plateand whisk to combine.

Dredge the chicken through the wet mixture, then the dry mixture, patting the breading on so it adheres. Arrange on a wire rack lined sheet tray, making sure there is ample space between each piece of chicken. Give the chicken a spritz of the olive cooking spray. This will help brown and crisp up the coating.

Put on the upper rack of the oven and bake until the chicken is golden and crisp. The temperature should register 160 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer in the thickest part of the chicken, about 45 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter and serve.
