Cleaning out Clutter for a Cause, Donate to Goodwill

As a fashion blogger/influencer, I have been given a lot of cool stuff over the years. That’s not to say that I’m not grateful! But after a while, stuff just seems to eventually turn into clutter. I know that I’m not the only one who has accumulated some form of clutter over the years. Whether it be that little black dress that is actually too little or that first baby outfit you bought for the photoshoot in the hospital. Did I mention my oldest child is now twelve years old? Okay, really – this is a judgement free zone!!!

In some parts of my house clutter has consumed a room, we all have a junk drawer or that room that we quietly close and lock the door when company arrives. Yes, I am raising my hand because I have both of them. My husband has started a new rule, that for every item I purchase I must give away one item. This Summer I plan to purchase a few new items, so the purge begins.

One day while I was shopping at my local Goodwill, I remembered that you can donate to them as well. Oh, snap! I can donate and shop at the same time killing two birds in one stone. (Insert my evil laugh).

When I returned home I began to clean out my closet, and you guys this was surely a task. I had so much clothing that you could literally shop in my closet. But the task was worth the reward as donating to Goodwill is so worth it in so many ways. Come with me as I count down ways…

  • It’s super easy to donate.
    • You can drive up to several locations and you don’t even have to get out of your car. Just drive up and you are greeted by friendly workers who take items out of your car and give you a receipt.

  • Give and make a difference.
    • Giving to Goodwill is not just for kicks, your donation is used to empower people through the power of work! Each of their programs teach valuable work/life skills which help to enrich the lives of those in the programs. Give good, donate good, see good. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of helping?

  • The Goodwill has a mission that you can believe in.
    • 90 cents of each dollar spent goes toward the Goodwill’s mission of empowering job seekers to earn a livable wage and keep employment. Also, all of the money goes toward local programs as it’s important that I see were my contribution are going.

  • I don’t want my items to have a negative effect on the environment.
    • I recall growing up looking at episodes of Captain Planet and remembering how recycling is so important. I don’t want my clothing to end of in a landfill that will have a negative effect on the planet.
