Cafe Gratitude

I would be lying if I said I will turn vegan. I am such a meat and potatoes type of girl. I decided this year to try a new things and vegan food was on the list. What is vegan exactly? Vegan is said to be the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, as well as following an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of sentient animals. I am not against being vegan. I just love meat. I would love to give it a try for a month and see what changes occur to my skin and body.

One of the most popular vegan restaurants in Kansas City is Café Gratitude. I’ve heard great things about the restaurant and decided to give it a try.

Café Gratitude is located off Southwest traffic way. The parking can be tricky! Luckily, we found a spot right in front of the restaurant. I suggest you look at the signs to avoid a potential ticket. The interior was eclectic with a hippie vibe. Start playing – Mary Jane-. Now everyone was not holding hands and singing Puff the Magic Dragon. With the suggestion of the waitress, we decided to go Mexican being newbies to vegan and all. I selected the “Yo Soy Feliz” and my mom selected the “Transformed”.

Yo Soy Feliz – Two corn tostadas with black bean puree, chipotle grilled portabella mushrooms, Mexican coleslaw, pico de gallo, toasted maple coconut, cashew ricotta cheese, salsa verde & avocado. I am a fan of portabella mushrooms, but the toasted maple coconut paired with the salsa verde had me concerned. Fortunately, I learned my concerns were invalid “coconut on Mexican food from now on”. The tostada were delicious. The cashew cheese would fool any cheese lover.

Transformed – Two organic corn tacos with brown rice, black beans, guacamole, salsa fresca, and cashew nacho cheese. Served with a side salad. I’ve never had tacos without meat. But now that I had, I’m upset that I’ve been missing out for so long.

We celebrated a successful dinner with vanilla milkshake shots. Cheers!
