The Jacobson KC – Kansas City Restaurant Review

My Kansas City Restaurant Week adventures continued, as my foodie friend in crime Chelsea from Whatchamakinnow and visited our second restaurant of the week. The Jacobson or simply known as “The J” by some is located in the beautiful historic Crossroads district of Kansas City, Mo. The restaurants interior has both a modern and eclectic vibe perfect for meeting that potential new someone, but intimate enough for a date night as well.

Here is a little history about The Jacobson – A.D. Jacobson was the brother of Edward “Eddie” Jacobson. Eddie Jacobson was a business partner and close personal friend of Harry S. Truman. The two owned and operated The Truman and Jacobson Haberdashery together in downtown Kansas City for many years and worked together on many other businesses and political initiatives.

The Jacobson’s menu is very diverse which offers up both traditional American and Exotic cuisines, by doing so your palate will never tire from exploring the menu. But the food is not the only thing The Jacobson has to offer, the drink menu is freshly innovative as well. If you are looking to try out one of the hand-crafted cocktails head over during Mingle Hour for drink / appetizer specials.

My first course was the Smoked Salmon Crostini was made with Featured house-cured salmon served over Farm to Market baguette with lemon crème fraiche. Finished with herb-infused oil & micro-greens. This baguette was perfectly toasted with crispy edges, the cured salmon combined with herb-infused oil and micro greens completed the dish.

My second course was the Moroccan Spice-rubbed Duroc pork confit served over toasted Israeli couscous with citrus & figs. Topped with crispy leeks. I am one to explore new flavors so when I saw this entrée, I knew I had to give it a try. This dish took me by total surprise, I love pork. But never experienced it quite this way. It literally took me to the top of the hill of flavor town and I fell hard in an exotic food coma never ever wanting to awake. There was even a moment after I finished the dish when I was contemplating licking the plate and throwing all tact out the window. Yes! This dish is just that good.

My last dish was a personal favorite of mine, the Salted Butterscotch Pudding served with fresh cream and shaved chocolate. This dessert was simple but absolutely delicious! I’ve always been a fan of butterscotch, even as a child I always selected the butterscotch dum dum candy. If you love butterscotch or want to experience something new give this a try it won’t disappoint.
